A Social Approach to Roommate Self-Selection

RoomSync is a Facebook application that empowers students to select their own roommates online. We enhance the normal Facebook profile search, which is something that students do for new roommates in mass. RoomSync users can search by lifestyle questionnaires, academic majors, and even search across users for those with a certain interest listed in their Facebook profile.

Enhanced matching on Facebook

Facebook is a social utility site that is not built for the purposes of roommate matching. Thousands of students research their new roommates on Facebook every year because Facebook profiles show an accurate glimpse into that new roommate's personality.

RoomSync is a Facebook application that builds upon these highly accurate Facebook profiles, providing users with additional tools to find the perfect roommate.

Sign a Lease

For By-The-Bed Properties: Once new and renewing residents commit to live at your community, they'll receive an email inviting them to join your private network. Only residents on your accepted list will be allowed to join.

Periodic reminders are sent out to encourage as many qualified residents as possible to join the matching network during the active matching period.

For Joint-Lease Properties: If a person is interested in your property, but does not have a roommate in mind to sign a lease, encourage them to join your RoomSync network to connect with others in need of roommates. This will help to bring prospects and current residents back into your leasing office to sign their new lease.

Users enter their information

To create the best matching environment, we ask users some key roommate matching questions. We have them fill out our detailed lifestyle questionnaire asking questions like preferred bedtime and visitor frequency. These questions are 100% customizable by your office.

We also ask users to enter their preferred academic major(s), which can be used to search across potential roommates.

Interact with the community

The first step for many students is to post on our community wall to connect with other students. This wall is a place for students to meet potential roommates and also to create new friendships.

Search for Roommates

Residents can find their perfect roommate with a lot of tools built exclusively in the RoomSync app, leveraging Facebook.

Users can search for roommates based on their ideal lifestyle preferences, filtering down to only those that fit within their ideal ranges. Or they can take a look at their top recommended roommates as determined by lifestyle compatibility.

If residents know a specific interest that they would like their roommate to have in common with them, they can go to our search tool and search for users with any keyword of interest listed in their Facebook profile. Users can also search for roommates by academic major.

Not to mention that users can click on the name of a potential roommate to see that person's Facebook interests, including favorite books, movies, music, etc.

Request your roommate on Facebook

Residents request a roommate right within the RoomSync app on Facebook. The other user will have to confirm the request and you receive the completed roommate request in the RoomSync Administration site.
