What is RoomSync?

RoomSync is a roommate matching software service on Facebook that works with housing departments to create a seamless college roommate matching solution on Facebook. The innovative process empowers students to choose their own roommates and has been proven to help reduce roommate conflicts.

Roommate Assignments in the Age of Social Media

Currently, more than 80 university housing departments and off-campus properties use RoomSync’s Facebook app. On both the Facebook and mobile app, students browse through potential roommates based on lifestyle preferences, academic majors, mutual friends and more. The app also suggests roommates and even allows users to search for roommates by their interests listed on Facebook. Allowing students to choose their own roommates empowers students, makes them accountable, and has been shown to reduce roommate conflict.

College Roommates and Retention

Research conducted at Michigan State University shows that roommate conflict is one of five major risk factors contributing to college dropout rates. RoomSync aims to reduce this conflict and increase student success. The University of Florida, one of the company’s first clients, collected data after the first year of implementation, and 65 percent of hall staff surveyed reported a decrease in roommate conflicts.
